'Money and Power: Interpreting the Early Medieval coin finds from Rendlesham '

'Abstract: Money and Power: Interpreting the Early Medieval coin finds from Rendlesham)
The Early Medieval site at Rendlesham is an Early Medieval royal site which has been the subject of intense archaeological investigation over many years. The site has been analysed as a part of a major project 'Landscape and Lordship' with results due for publication later this year. Amongst the astonishing finds are hundreds of usually-rare Early Medieval coins. This talk will analyse these coins and highlight long-distance networks of exchange, the varied ways in which coinage was used and the economic explosion of the seventh and eighth centuries.
